Jets could explore reunion with former wide receiver with No. 1 target questionable

The Jets are thin at wide receiver, but could turn to a familiar face to fill the void.

New York attempted to bolster their wideout room this offseason, signing several free agents and former teammates of quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Now ten weeks into the NFL season, those acquisitions are hardly making the impact the Jets had hoped.

Mecole Hardman Jr., who the Jets believed could provide versatility and speed to the offense, was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs after receiving little playing time. Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb — two of Rodgers's favorite targets in Green Bay — have floundered in the four-time MVP's absence, with the former boasting a meager 50% catch percentage and the latter being a healthy scratch in two consecutive games.

To make matters worse, the Jets' lone bright spot at wide receiver may miss time. After being limited in practice this week with an elbow injury, Garrett Wilson's status for New York's Week 11 game against the Buffalo Bills is up in the air.

"We’ll see," head coach Robert Saleh said of Wilson’s availability, per SNY. "Obviously, I’m not going to speak for him or the docs. There’s a couple of hurdles he has to clear."

The Jets can ill afford to lose Wilson, who's been the main source of production on an offense that ranks bottom five in the league in passing yards, yards per attempt and passing touchdowns. While the second-year wideout has amassed 55 receptions for 642 yards and two touchdowns this season, New York's remaining wide receivers have combined for just 30 catches, 389 yards and one touchdown.

With their offense in dire straits, New York could turn to former Jet Robbie Chosen. The 30-year-old was waived by the Miami Dolphins on Nov. 16 after playing in only four games this season.

The Jets took a chance on Chosen in 2016, signing him in free agency after he fell out of the NFL draft. The Temple product took full advantage of the opportunity, reeling in 207 catches for 3,059 yards and 20 touchdowns over four seasons in New York.

"He can roll," Saleh said of Chosen in a Nov. 17 press conference. "He has a fastball. Whenever a player has a fastball he’s worth exploring."

It remains to be seen if the Jets' exploration will result in Chosen's homecoming.
