Jaguars Re-Sign Nathan Rourke to Practice Squad
USA TODAY Sports

A few days after the Jacksonville Jaguars had to waive first-year passer and one-time emergency quarterback Nathan Rourke, the former Candian Football League star has been re-signed to the practice squad.

Rourke was signed off the practice squad last week, filling in as an extra insurance option for an injured Trevor Lawrence, who entered Week 7 with a knee injury.

Lawrence left Week 6's 37-20 win over the Indianapolis Colts with a knee injury after rolling out and taking a sack with just over 3:00 left in the game, but the third-year signal-caller said after the game that he was "feeling OK."

After a few days of limited practice, Lawrence played on Thursday Night Football in a 31-24 win over the New Orleans Saints. Lawrence, making his 43rd consecutive start, completed 20-of-29 passes for 204 yards and one touchdown.

Rourke was drafted by the CFL’s BC Lions in 2020 and played with the Lions from 2021-22. He appeared in 22 games (11 starts) from 2021-22 and completed 300-of-395 passes for 4,035 yards and 28 TDs. Rourke completed 78.7 of his passes in 2022, setting a new CFL record and earned the CFL’s award for Most Outstanding Canadian.

Rourke played at Ohio University from 2017-19 and threw for 7,457 yards and 60 TDs in three seasons, leading the Bobcats to three consecutive bowl victories.

Rourke excelled in the preseason for the Jaguars and was signed to the practice squad as the team's defacto No. 3 quarterback following the 53-man roster cuts.
