Jaguars' Brandon McManus Named AFC Special Teams Player of the Month

A few days after Jacksonville Jaguars kicker Brandon McManus scored 12 of the Jaguars' 20 points in a 20-10 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, the veteran kicker has been given the nod of AFC Special Teams Player of the Month.

McManus, a 10-year veteran, scored 48 kicking points in October and was 12-of-12 on field goals, including 4-of-4 on field goals of 50 yards or longer. McManus led the NFL with made field goals of 50 yards or longer from Weeks 4 to 8.

McManus, who is the first-ever Jaguars kicker to win the award, has won the award one previous time in his career.

The Jaguars made the bold move to sign McManus this offseason after he was surprisingly released by the Denver Broncos. Despite 2022 kicker Riley Patterson making a clutch game-winning field goal in the playoffs vs. the Los Angeles Chargers, the Jaguars rolled the dice on McManus. So far, the move has aged brilliantly. 

“I have a great relationship with Brandon. We talk all the time of how I can do a better job of coaching him, not only him, but across the group and across the whole team," Jaguars special teams coordinator Heath Farwell said earlier this season. 

"He’s been through many talented special teams coordinators, so he’s a smart guy that I can learn from a ton. Not only on the kicking game, but across how you treat players and what the things you did and what did Joe D [Rams Special Teams Coordinator Joe DeCamillis] do for him back in the day in Denver and all those little details that I can pick up on. I always pick those guys brains, especially Brandon who is as smart as he is.”
