Jacksonville Jaguars Reportedly Close to Restructuring $24 Million Contract of Star Offensive Lineman
Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The Jacksonville Jaguars struggled to get things going offensively last season despite making a surprise playoff push in 2022.

One of the factors that contributed to the disappointing season was the team’s inability to stop elite AFC teams from affecting their effectiveness in the league. Trevor Lawrence did everything he could to bring the team, but they just fell short to some of the better defenses in the AFC to miss out on a Wild Card bid.

As the team prepare to make another playoff push in 2024, the team is looking to get as much cap space as possible to secure high-tier talent for the squad. One of their cap-saving moves is to restructure the contract of one of their star offensive lineman.

Jacksonville Jaguars negotiate restructuring of G Brandon Scherff’s contract

Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk reported that the Jacksonville Jaguars are looking to adjust Brandon Scherff’s contract across multiple years to lessen the burden on their salary cap:

The Jaguars are close to a restructured contract agreement with offensive guard Brandon Scherff, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports.

Scherff was projected as a salary cap casualty because of his $23.967 million cap number. He was scheduled to make a $15 million base salary.

Scherff has been a reliable presence in the trenches for the Jacksonville Jaguars, not missing a single regular-season game ever since he joined the team in 2022. The one-time First-Team All-Pro guard is yet to get any All-Pro or Pro Bowl nods ever since he joined the team, but he’s been a reliable presence for the Jaguars.

According to Spotrac , the restructure will distribute Scherff’s contract across four years, which will allow the team to find more effective players to make life easier for Lawrence and Doug Pederson.

The Jaguars’ 2024 offensive line is slowly taking shape as they recently tied Ezra Cleveland to a three-year deal. If they manage to add more reinforcements to their o-line, they will give their franchise QB more time to find the right target and win more games.
