Jack Podlesny has a Stone Cold Mentality that's Perfect for Green Bay
Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Plenty of former Bulldogs will be playing this weekend in the NFL's conference championship games, but for 28 other NFL teams, the 2024 season has already started. That means new opportunities for players all over the league.

Former Georgia kicker Jack Podlesny, who started on the 2021 and 2022 national championship teams, signed with the Green Bay Packers and will fight to win that job. Lambeau Field isn't known to be kind to kickers with plenty of wind and cold temperatures. Still, according to Podlesny's college teammate and snapper William Mote, he has the right mindset to thrive in a highly competitive environment.

"He's got a mentality where not many people can break into his head, you know? Like there are people that you can tell sometimes that they're in like a mode," said Mote. I'll never forget this. The Cincinnati game. Whenever he hit the clutch kick to win the game. We were leaving him alone at that time he was warming up. And sometimes, like, players like on the team, they don't realize, sometimes you should just leave a specialist to himself, let him focus on what he needs to do. He knows what he needs to do."

"We needed the kick, obviously, a 52-yarder I believe, and somebody was like, 'Where's Pod? Where's Pod?' and they start jogging over to him. And there were probably two or three people who started talking to him before he even had to go out there. And, he literally was just locked into the ball [on the sidelines], jogs out there, doesn't even listen to what they're saying. He was locked in. His mentality is different."

Podlesny would go on to connect on the 53-yard field goal to win the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl and hit plenty of huge field goals to help Georgia win two national championships over the next two seasons. After spending the past season on the practice squad for the Minnesota Vikings, he'll see if he can become the guy for the Packers.
