Houston Texans Former No. 3 Overall Pick ‘On The Clock’ After NFL Draft
Junfu Han / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Houston Texans added one of the top cornerbacks in a loaded draft class at the position, over the weekend, which could start the clock ticking on one of the veterans at the position.

Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport put together a list of veteran players across the NFL who could be in trouble following their team’s moves during the draft, listing Texans cornerback Jeff Okudah among them.

“With the 10th pick of the second round, the Texans drafted Georgia’s Kamari Lassiter,” Davenport points out. “A versatile defensive back Bleacher Report’s Cory Giddings expects to play early on.

“Lassiter is one of the top cornerbacks in this year’s draft,” Giddings wrote. “A well-rounded player, he has the versatility to play in multiple schemes and does a very good job of defending the run. He will have to continue to work on play strength, along with his play against the pass downfield, but Lassiter will have the chance to play early in his career. The Texans are no longer the rebuilding team we have become accustomed to in recent years. This team has its eyes set on a deep playoff run.”

Last season, Okudah posted 44 tackles with the Falcons before signing a one-year deal worth $4.75 million with the Texans this offseason. But, Houston making such a strong investment in Lassiter might be a clear indication that Okudah’s job might already be on the line before even playing a snap this season.
