Hall of Fame RB praises Saquon Barkley amid deal with Eagles

Detroit Lions Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders had a slightly different reaction to Saquon Barkley joining the Philadelphia Eagles than New York Giants legend Tiki Barber.

The twin brother of Hall of Fame defensive back Ronde Barber spent his entire 10-year career with Big Blue from 1997-2006, making three Pro Bowls and earning one First Team All-Pro honor.

As rumors swirled last week regarding Barkley possibly leaving the Giants to join their NFC East rivals, Barber sent a passionate warning to the former AP Offensive Rookie of the Year.

"The fact that Saquon would even contemplate going to play for that team in Philadelphia is insulting to his Giant history and legacy," Barber said on WFAN. "Do not go to the Philadelphia Eagles, because if you do, that appreciation and respect and reverence that we all have for you Saquon, will be lost. It'll be gone."

It was reported on Monday that Barkley had agreed to a three-year contract with Philadelphia. This came after the Giants decided not to place the franchise tag on the 27-year-old.

Barkley ends his career with the G-Men with 5,211 rushing yards, 288 receptions and 2,100 receiving yards for 7,311 yards from scrimmage. He posted 35 rushing scores and 12 touchdowns through the air across 74 regular season games and made two Pro Bowls.

Like Barber, Sanders spent his entire career with one organization.

The 10-time Pro Bowler was selected third overall by the Lions in 1989 and played 10 NFL seasons. Sanders was the 1989 AP Offensive Rookie of the Year, a two-time AP Offensive Player of the Year, won the 1997 MVP award and was named First Team All-Pro six times.

Sanders led the league in rushing four times and rushing touchdowns once. He is second all-time in rushing yards per game (99.8) and fourth in career rushing yards (15,269).
