Giants CB Sam Beal opts out of 2020 season

The New York Giants will be without cornerback Sam Beal once again.

On Wednesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network and others confirmed that the 23-year-old defensive back has opted out of the 2020 season scheduled to begin amid the worsening coronavirus pandemic:

It's yet another blow for a New York secondary that lost cornerback and 2019 first-round selection DeAndre Baker to the Commissioner’s Exempt list in late July. Baker is facing felony counts of armed robbery and aggravated assault related to a May incident.

The Giants acquired Beal in the 2018 Supplemental Draft, but he never featured during his rookie season after he suffered a shoulder injury early into training camp. Thus far, Beal has played in only six games for Big Blue.

Beal began August signed through 2021. His contract tolls until next season per an agreement between the NFL and NFL Players Association.
