Free agent safety Jordan Whitehead posts a series of tweets from his time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Whitehead was a home-grown Buccaneer, drafted by Tampa Bay in the fourth round of the 2018 draft.  He started all 16 regular season games and all 4 postseason games during the Bucs' Super Bowl championship season.  

Whitehead signed a two-year deal with the New York Jets after the 2021 season.  In New York, he pulled down six total interceptions in his two years, with four in 2023, a career high.  If Whitehead were to be interested in a return to Tampa Bay, it would be a good fit for the Bucs' defense - if the Bucs could afford to pull it off.  

The Bucs have struggled to find a reliable safety to play alongside Antoine Winfield, Jr., on whom the Bucs placed the franchise tag earlier this week. Ryan Neal was largely a disappointment last season.  Dee Delaney, who is also a pending unrestricted free agent, has upside in coverage, but not as much in run support. 

Whitehead is an absolute thumper, which is reinforced by the video clips he posted all showing off hard hits he made in run support.  He could reassume his starting role alongside Winfield, Jr., reuniting the Bucs' Super Bowl safety duo. 

Of course, it's also possible Whitehead is simply showcasing his skills for whomever ahead of free agency.  Or he's just enjoying some time on social media by posting his highlights.  However, there's no doubt Whitehead enjoyed his most successful run in Tampa Bay.  

One that Bucs fans would certainly like to see start up again.
