The Los Angeles Chargers opened up the preseason with a 29-22 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. In a back and forth game in which neither teams starters played in, a few players stood out for the Chargers.

Chase Daniel QB

Chase Daniel played a solid game after getting the nod at QB Saturday evening. Daniel threw for 117 yards, completed 11 out of 17 passes, and threw 2 touchdowns for a QB rating of 123.9. Daniel’s performance likely solidifies any doubt that he would be the backup option behind starter Justin Herbert. Easton Stick also saw game action for the Chargers, but struggled a bit more, throwing 1 interception and 0 touchdowns during his time on the field.

Michael Bandy and Joe Reed WRS

Two young receivers stood out for the Chargers on Saturday. Michael Bandy caught 7 passes for 73 yards and a touchdown while Joe Reed caught 4 passes for 61 yards and a touchdown. Both receivers are just 24 years old and fighting for a spot on the roster this season. While the Chargers already have solid options on the field at wide receiver, Bandy and Reed could further add to the depth of the position. Their performances were especially important as the running game for the Chargers could never get going on Saturday.

Chris Rumph II

In somewhat of a shaky defensive performance for the Chargers, one player stood out with a solid performance against the Rams. Chris Rumph II registered 4 tackles and one sack in Saturday night’s loss, providing important backfield pressure throughout the game. Two of Rumph II’s tackles were for losses, further illustrating is impact behind the line of scrimmage. Rumph II is still only 23 years old, and could be a very solid fringe defensive contributor for the Chargers this season if he can keep these kind of performances up and raise his stock more.
