Former New England Patriots player recalled epic Rob Gronkowski partying story
Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Rob Gronkowski is known for a few different things. Over the course of his 11-year career, he spent nine seasons with the New England Patriots where he became known as one of the best tight ends to ever play the game. He also gained the reputation as a bit of a party animal.

Gronkowski’s partying was no secret and one of his former teammates in New England certainly noticed it. Jake Bequette, a former defensive end on the team, told a story about his partying on Prime Time with Alex Stein.

Apparently, Rob Gronkowski had the tendency to go out partying and once he was drunk, he would go into the team facilities to sleep in the trainer’s room. That way, he wouldn’t be late the next day.

“We all had these key fobs that gave us 24/7 access to the Patriots facility there in Foxborough,” Bequette said. “During the offseason, Gronk would go out all night with his boys in Boston. You know, stay up till three or four in the morning, whatever it was, and then have his crew drop him off at the Patriots facility.”

At that point, Gronkowski would go to sleep on a training table.

“He would stagger into the Patriots locker room, key fob in and go pass out on the training tables,” Bequette said. “An hour or two later when the trainers came in to start their workday, they’d come in there and see Gronk all sprawled out on the training table just fast asleep.”

According to Bequette, the trainers wouldn’t wake him up when this happened. Instead, they’d stick an IV in his arm to get Rob Gronkowski some fluids before he’d wake up “like Frankenstein,” only to still be the best player on the field.

Rob Gronkowski on a potential comeback

Rob Gronkowski is a player who seemingly had more in the tank when he walked away from the game. He even proved that by coming back and winning a Super Bowl with Tampa Bay before retiring a second time. Because of that, there are rumors he may come back again.

However, Gronkowski shut down those rumors.

“Yes, yes, I told them I’m done, done,” Gronkowski said. I would just say like (the door to coming back), it’s like deadbolted. The door. And like there’s someone just pounding at the door and like the chance of someone breaking the door down like you got to be the Incredible Hulk to come through, to break that door.”
