Former Browns OL Chris Hubbard Weighs in on Cleveland’s Playoff Chances in 2023
USA TODAY Sports

Many folks have come around on the Cleveland Browns due to the work that they have put in during this offseason. Even former players such as OL Chris Hubbard believes the ship is sailing in the right way for the Browns.

When asked if he thinks the Browns will return to the playoffs in 2023 for just the second time this century, Hubbard was pretty optimistic about the Browns doing just that.

“The chances are pretty high, man,” Hubbard said on the AP Pro Football Podcast. “The way that they attacked this offseason was very impressive. I saw Andrew Berry really pull out the big guns if I can say that. He really did an amazing job bringing in guys that fit Cleveland.”

Hubbard spent the last five seasons with the Browns and played in 46 games, making 35 starts during that time. The former UAB standout played in just five games over the last two seasons and is in search of his next NFL home.

The draft in particular is somewhere that Hubbard pointed out where the Browns exceeded at. Despite not having a pick until the third round, the Browns made multiple picks that could end up being steals. WR Cedric Tillman, OT Dawand Jones, and C Luke Wypler are three that stand out in that category.

“I feel like when the draft hit they attacked things that they needed to help them succeed in the right way.”

It doesn’t always happen where players talk well about teams that they have left. That is the case here with Hubbard and the Browns doing right by him likely had an impact. A triceps injury kept Hubbard out all but one game in 2021 and the Browns still brought back the aging vet in 2022 with concerns about his injury.

“I really do feel like they have a really good chance at making it to the next level and making that jump.”
