Former Bears DB Could Be More Than a Browns Spy

It's a case of the spy who came in from the cold, or maybe it's going out in the cold considering it's Cleveland and December.

This week one former Bears safety could have been feeding information to the Browns about the Bears defense. However, now it's possible it will go beyond this because on Sunday he'll be facing the Bears.

Duron Harmon was with the Bears from Oct. 3 through Nov. 8 before being waived.

Harmon had to start the Bears' road loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, and he made six tackles in three games played. He was in on 84 total plays when either Eddie Jackson and Jaquan Brisker, or both, were injured.

The Browns picked up Harmon for their practice squad Nov. 22 and now could be playing against the Bears Sunday because of all the injuries the Browns secondary suffered. So it's not just a case of Harmon being in Cleveland to be milked for information on the opponent.

Harmon had 76 tackles and two interceptions in 2022 for the Raiders.

BROWNS INJURY SITUATION LOOKS BLEAK IN SECONDARY

Writing for FanNation's Browns Digest, Anthony Moeglin detailed a secondary facing Justin Fields full of question marks or possibly even in need of prayers.

In a week when the Browns lost defensive tackle Maurice Hurst and edge rusher Ogo Okoronkwo to injured reserve, they also had to put safety Grant Delpit on the list. They're without safety Juan Thornhill this week due to a calf injury.

Moeglin could not call all-Pro cornerback Denzel Ward a certain starter for Sunday. He is questionable and during the week he had just limited practices. He's been out since Nov. 19 with a shoulder injury.

The Browns will be using subs Ronnie Hickman and D'Anthony Bell at safety with Harmon also being considered for playing time.

If Ward can't play, they do have former Northwestern cornerback Greg Newsome who can play the position.

Regardless, the Browns are sure to rely a great deal on their dominant front seven with Myles Garrett, Za'Darius Smith and Dalvin Tomlinson to give Justin Fields problems because so many reserves starting in the secondary is never a positive.
