First look at Jayden Daniels in a Washington Commanders practice jersey
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Jayden Daniels era starts this weekend, when the Washington Commanders hold rookie minicamps. The nine draft picks, 11 undrafted free agents, as well as multiple tryouts will all attempt to make a good first impression on Dan Quinn and the rest of the (mostly) new staff.

While this weekend, for the most part, won't make or break anyone's chances of making the team, it's still an important string of days that help the first-year players learn installs, as well as other basic things in order to get them on the path toward NFL life.

And with that comes the first peek at rookies in their practice gear. Well, shorts and shirts, anyway. Meaning, we got our first look at Daniels in his No. 5 practice jersey on Friday:

For those unfamiliar with the story, Commanders punter, Tress Way, made headlines earlier in the week when he gave his jersey number to Daniels, pro bono. It was a pure act of selflessness from the veteran punter and it exemplifies the kind of culture the new Commanders brass is trying to instill, regardless of how small it was in terms of impact. Daniels wore No. 5 throughout his collegiate career at Arizona State and Louisiana State University. He won the Heisman Trophy at the latter, so it's a number that's obviously important to him.

It really is a new era in Washington. With Daniels as the face of the franchise, Adam Peters as the new general manager, Dan Quinn as the new head coach, and Josh Evans as controlling owner - the group is doing all it can to eradicate the stench that was created under former owner, Dan Snyder, and return things to the glory days of 1983-1992, when the franchise made four Super Bowl appearances and won three of them by an average of 18.3 points.
