Falcons Ex Borders Signs with Patriots: Details
Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

The New England Patriots have signed veteran defensive back, and former Atlanta Falcon, Breon Borders to their practice squad, per his agency, Exclusive Sports Group.

Borders had signed with the Falcons in June. However, he was promptly suspended for the first two games of the 2023 season for a violation of the NFL's substance policy. As such, he was released by the Falcons during the roster reduction period in late August.

Borders, 28, joined the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2017, signing with the Oakland Raiders on the heels of a stellar four-year college stay at Duke. The 6-foot, 189-pound cornerback has been a journeyman throughout his six NFL seasons, spending time with the Buffalo Bills, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Washington, Pittsburgh Steelers, Miami Dolphins, Arizona Cardinals and Chicago Bears -- mostly as members of their respective practice squads.

The Statesville, NC native is perhaps best-known for his one-plus season with the Tennessee Titans from 2020-21, in which he played in 17 games (making five starts) while earning 27 tackles and seven passes-defended.

Throughout his career, Borders has played in 32 games (six starts) and has compiled 42 total tackles, the aforementioned seven pass-breakups one interception and one forced fumble.

During the preseason with the Falcons, Borders had a pick-six in the first game against the Miami Dolphins, flashing some potential that he could be able to flex in New England.

Now, Borders has another chance to stick around the NFL with his 10th team in the Patriots.
