Ex-Bears exec destroys former GM for wild Justin Fields-Jordan Love take
Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields Lon Horwedel-USA TODAY Sports

Former New York Jets and Miami Dolphins executive Mike Tannenbaum is in hot water right now. This is after the ex-NFL GM, who is now employed by ESPN as one of their NFL analysts, came out with a bold take involving Chicago Bears star quarterback Justin Fields and Jordan Love of the Green Bay Packers.

Actually, Tannenbaum’s bonkers claim also threw shade at the rest of the NFC North as he declared Love as the best quarterback in the division.

Former Chicago Bears scouting director Greg Gabriel did not take this lightly. The ex-Chicago executive obviously has high hopes for Fields and his future with the Bears, and this prompted Gabriel to come out with an unforgiving rant aimed at Tannenbaum:

“Yesterday, a two-time former NFL GM claimed that the best quarterback in the NFC North is Green Bay’s Jordan Love,” Gabriel wrote in his recent article for SB Nation. “We all know that is absurd as how good or bad Love is this season remains to be seen. Nothing Love has done to date says he will be good, bad, or indifferent. We just don’t know.

“That same former GM also has Fields ranked as the worst QB in the NFC North. Of course, it should be pointed out that this former GM basically destroyed two AFC East franchises when he was GM of those two teams, so his opinion is actually a joke! But it goes along with many other national narratives that are out there.”

It is abundantly clear that Gabriel does not agree with Tannenbaum’s hot take. However, the former Bears executive just had to take it a step further by bringing up Tannenbaum’s past. Gabriel also insinuated that he simply does not respect Tannenbaum’s opinion on this matter.

Tannenbaum is clearly a fan of Love. In fact, he went as far as saying that the Packers’ rising star is the best quarterback in the entire NFC North. Tannenbaum actually believes that Love has what it takes to lead Green Bay to the division title this season:

“If Jordan Love just plays point guard, relies on two great running backs, and a really good defense, Green Bay wins the division, and they have a bright young quarterback,” Tannenbaum said. “If we can trust Green Bay on one thing, it’s quarterbacks. (Brett) Farve to Rodgers, and now Rodgers to Jordan Love. They are acting the exact same way they did a decade ago.”

Let’s not forget that apart from Fields, a dude named Jared Goff also plies his trade in the NFC North, and Kirk Cousins is in the picture as well. Taking all this into consideration, you can’t help but think that Tannenbaum’s Love take is a tad contentious, to say the least.
