ESPN analyst has huge expectations for Justin Fields

ESPN NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky has massive expectations for Justin Fields this fall, saying Monday morning that the Chicago Bears quarterback will be "in the MVP conversation."

Orlovsky -- a former NFL quarterback himself -- opined that Fields could take a similar type of leap that Buffalo Bills star Josh Allen took in the second part of this second season.

During the 2019 campaign (Allen's first full season as a starter), he upped his numbers across the board in completion percentage (58.8%), passing yards (3,089), passing touchdowns (20) and quarterback rating (85.3), to go along with a career-low nine interceptions.

Allen then had his best year to date in 2020, recording career-bests in completion percentage (69.2%), passing yards (4,544), passing touchdowns (37) and quarterback rating (107.2) -- against just 10 interceptions -- to finish as the MVP runner-up.

Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow and others figure to pack the top of the NFL MVP race during the 2023 season, but if Fields can build off of how he finished 2022, he could put his name in the mix.

The 2021 11th overall pick started slowly in his second NFL season but picked it up big time in his final seven games from Weeks 9 through 17. In that final stretch, Fields had 10 touchdown passes and five interceptions, with a pair of contests with quarterback ratings of over 100 (and four over 90).

Fields also had three games with at least 130 rushing yards, had five of his eight rushing touchdowns during his last seven games of the campaign and set an NFL regular season single-game record for rushing yards by a quarterback (178) in Week 9.

His overall rushing numbers across 15 games included 160 carries for 1,143 rushing yards and eight scores, as he became just the third quarterback in league history to run for over 1,000 yards.
