Following the passing of 18-year-old shooting victim Jarvon Coles, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback and Houston native Jalen Hurts stepped up by paying the young football player’s funeral expenses, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport. Coles, who played linebacker at North Shore High School, was shot on March 10 in a drive-by shooting while he attended a house party in Humble, Texas.

North Shore High School was a rival school for Jalen Hurts while he was the quarterback at Channelview High School, and the two schools sit just five miles apart. According to Rapoport, upon hearing about Coles’ death, Hurts offered to pay for his funeral expenses.

Coles, a senior at North Shore, reportedly had a 4.1 GPA and acceptances from 15 colleges and universities. He was planning to attend Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.

His family held his funeral at The Light of the World Christian Fellowship Church on Saturday. Unfortunately, investigators are still on the hunt for Coles’ killer.

Authorities searching for answers in Jarvon Coles shooting

His father, Jarvis Payne, expressed hope that the authorities would root out the perpetrator and asked for anyone with any information on the shooting to come forward. The shooting occurred in the 4900 block of Fieldwick Lane around 11 p.m.

“The Bible says you should fear no man but God,” Payne said. “So if anybody knows anything, just come clean. God don’t like no ugly, so it’ll come out eventually.”

On the night of the shooting, the police were called to a rental house in Humble to do a welfare check. When they arrived, EMS was on the scene performing CPR on Coles whom they discovered had been shot. According to those at the party, the car used in the drive-by shooting had several people inside and shots were fired at the house.

Authorities have requested that anyone with any information on the shooting call the Harris County Sherriff’s Office at 713-274-9100.
