Eagles' QB Jalen Hurts rushes for over 100 yards in first quarter vs. Packers

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was ready to run Sunday night against the Green Bay Packers. Hurts burnt the Packers' defense in the first quarter, rushing for 103 yards.

Hurts became the first quarterback in the last 30 years to rush for 100 or more yards in the first quarter of a game.

According to Sheil Kapadia of The Athletic, Hurts' 103 rushing yards are the most by any player, quarterback or not, in the first quarter of a game over the last two seasons.

Hurts was especially dangerous on third down in the first quarter.

On the Eagles' opening drive Sunday night, Hurts converted two third downs, picking up gains of 24 and 28 yards, leading to a Kenneth Gainwell four-yard touchdown run.

With 53 seconds left in the opening quarter and the Eagles facing third and two from the Green Bay 45-yard-line, Hurts scrambled for a 42-yard gain, the longest of his career. After keeping the drive alive, two plays later, Miles Sanders scored from two yards out.

Entering Week 12, Hurts averaged 4.0 yards per carry, recording 440 yards off 110 attempts with eight rushing touchdowns.

Sunday night's 100-plus yard game is the second of Hurts' young career and the first since he ran for 106 yards off 18 carries in Week 13 of the 2020 season against the New Orleans Saints.
