Eagles' Jalen Carter named finalist for prestigious award
Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter was a favorite for the 2023-24 Associated Press' Defensive Rookie of the Year award heading into the season and now he is a finalist.

The Eagles selected Carter at No. 9 overall in last April's draft and it's crazy now to see how many teams did not select him.

Carter finished the year playing in 16 games where he registered 33 total tackles, 6 sacks, 9 QB hits, 8 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery.

He returned the fumble recovery for a 42-yard touchdown in Week 14 against the Dallas Cowboys.

Another highlight from Carter's rookie year was when he attempted to intercept a routine spiked ball from Patrick Mahomes  in Week 11's win over the Kansas City Chiefs

While Carter's attempt was unsuccessful, his effort was brilliant.

Carter is among four other finalists for the award including Houston Texans defensive end Will Anderson., Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter, Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Kobie Turner, and Seattle Seahawks cornerback Devon Witherspoon.

The winner of the Defensive Rookie of the Year award will be announced at the NFL Honors on Thursday, Feb. 8.
