Eagles’ Devin White Makes Bold Statement Heading Into 2024
Jeremy Reper-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles had one of the biggest hauls in free agency this offseason, and part of that haul was linebacker Devin White.

White flew under the radar on the free-agent market after a down year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2023, which he called a “roller coaster” ride.

But now, he feels he is somewhere he is appreciated and where he can maximize his talents.

“Now I’m here in a great spot, just ready to show who I really am, which a lot of people know,” White said, via Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia. “I’ve been in the league five years and I did a lot of great things. But none of that matters right now. Right now, I’ve got a clean start. Zero tackles, zero sacks, zero picks, zero wins and I’m trying to go earn it all.”

White logged 83 tackles, 2.5 sacks, a couple of interceptions and six passes defended this past season. He was even benched by the Buccaneers for three games and apparently rubbed some of his teammates the wrong way.

However, there is no question that White can play.

The 26-year-old, who played his collegiate football at LSU, was selected by Tampa Bay with the fifth overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft.

He enjoyed an impressive rookie campaign, registering 91 tackles, 2.5 sacks, an interception, three forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and a pair of defensive touchdowns.

Then, during his sophomore season, White racked up 140 tackles, nine sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Somehow, he did not make the Pro Bowl, but he earned a Second-Team All-Pro selection.

White then made his first trip to the Pro Bowl in 2021 after rattling off 128 tackles, 3.5 sacks and a fumble recovery. He posted similar numbers the following year, finishing with 124 stops, 5.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.

The Eagles were in serious need of defensive assistance heading into the offseason, so we will see if Devin White can be of significant help in 2024.
