Dolphins star looking to top 2,000 receiving yards this season

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill doesn't just want to lead the NFL in receiving yards this season, he wants to do so while smashing an NFL record.

Specifically, he has set the bar at 2,000 yards.

Hill was asked on Thursday whether that mark was a realistic goal for the 2023 season, to which he replied “Oh yeah, for sure. I think the added game gives me quite the advantage, so yeah," via Pro Football Network

He went on to say he has the most accurate passer in the NFL, one of the best head coaches, and a "monster" of a wide receivers coach to help him get there. The key, in his mind, will be staying healthy and being able to play in all 17 games.

No wide receiver has ever recorded 2,000 receiving yards in a single season, but a handful have gotten close.

Former Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson has the current high mark with 1,964 yards during the 2012 season. Los Angeles's Cooper Kupp is the only other player to top the 1,900 mark with 1,947 during the 2021 season.

Hill set a Dolphins franchise record with 1,710 yards during his debut year with the team, but that came with starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa missing four games due to injury. A fully healthy year from him could also help Hill in his record-setting journey.

The 17th game on the schedule certainly helps his chances, but he'll still need to average 117 yards per game to make it happen. That's a big ask for any player. Even though Hill is one of the most explosive playmakers in the NFL, he is also going to be 29 when the 2023 season kicks off. That's not exactly a prime year for wide receivers. At some point, Hill might start slowing down a little and losing some of that burst. If that starts this season, it will make topping 2,000 even more difficult to achieve.
