Dolphins CBs coach provides massive injury update for star DB

Miami Dolphins cornerbacks coach Sam Madison gave fans a positive injury update on star cornerback Jalen Ramsey on Thursday.

The 28-year-old was acquired by the Dolphins in a trade with the Los Angeles Rams in March but suffered a torn meniscus during training camp. Ramsey was placed on injured reserve at the end of August, less than two weeks before the regular season kicked off.

Without the six-time Pro Bowler and three-time first-team All-Pro honoree in the lineup this fall, the Miami defense has ranked in the bottom half of the league in yards allowed per game (23rd), passing yards allowed per game (20th), rushing yards allowed per contest (18th) and points surrendered per game (26th). They could certainly use the help in the secondary, especially with an early-November matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs not too far off on the horizon Week 9 in Germany.

What head coach Mike McDaniel's crew has lacked on defense, they've certainly made up for on offense, with a pair of MVP candidates in quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and wide receiver Tyreek Hill, as well as a host of other contributors.

Ramsey posted career highs in combined tackles (88), solo tackles (64), passes defended (18) and sacks (2.0) in 2022 across 17 games, while also matching his career-best marks in interceptions (four) and forced fumbles (two). The 2016 fifth overall pick's 18 passes defended were second-most in the NFL, behind only Defensive Rookie of the Year Ahmad "Sauce" Gardner, who finished with 20.

Ramsey was also as durable as ever last season, playing a career-high 1,077 defensive snaps (99%) while seeing 126 special teams snaps as well.
