Did Jimmy Garoppolo ghost the 49ers after signing contract?

If you thought the relationship between Jimmy Garoppolo and the San Francisco 49ers couldn't get any sourer, just wait until you hear about the vanishing act he put on after signing his big contract with the team.

According to a scathing report in the San Francisco Chronicle, the quarterback would go ghost on the Niners -- even after they signed him to a five-year deal worth $137.5 million.

"Once he left that press conference nobody heard from him for weeks and weeks," an unnamed assistant coach from the 2018 staff told the Chronicle's Mike Silver. "He didn't return calls, he didn't return texts — he basically just vanished. And we were looking at each other going, 'What just happened.'"

Suffice to say, that kind of behavior isn't going to make other NFL jump at the chance of signing Garoppolo, who according to Peter King's Football Morning In America, isn't even working out with the rest of the 49ers this preseason.

The only team that has emerged as a potential suitor to trade for Garoppolo has been the Cleveland Browns, who are still waiting to see if Deshaun Watson's six-game suspension turns into a full-season ban. It is likely at this point that the Niners will release Garoppolo before Labor Day, Peter King said.
