Davante Adams And Michael Mayer Should Benefit From Luke Getsy As Raiders OC, In Theory At Least
Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

When looking at Davante Adams and his history with Luke Getsy, the Las Vegas Raiders star wideout should benefit tremendously, along with upstart Michael Mayer.

It’s been an interesting few days for the Raiders, just in case you haven’t been following. Kliff Kingsbury was once considered the next offensive coordinator in Las Vegas. Well, as it turns out, none of that came to fruition. Despite social media getting ahead of itself, Kingsbury reportedly walked away from the deal, leaving the Raiders to scramble. As a result, Getsy appears to be in line for the same gig. Keep in mind that nothing official has surfaced from the team as of this publication.

What do we make of the Raiders hiring Luke Getsy?

Well, if Getsy is indeed the man for the job, a couple of playmakers on offense could see tremendous benefit from their new coordinator. First off, we have Davante Adams.

No. 17 had some of his best years in Green Bay under the guise of Getsy. Prior to breaking out for 1,386 receiving yards in 2018, Adams made his first Pro Bowl the season prior (2017), when Getsy was his positional coach. Getsy then returned to the Packers in 2019 as the passing game coordinator and quarterback’s coach. While many point to Getsy’s failure the last two years with the Chicago Bears, it’s hard to ignore his time with Adams.

Considering Adams’ stature within the Raiders, it’s highly unlikely he didn’t sign off on this move—that’s not a report or fact, but it’s not hard to look at this situation and decipher it. Both parties have spoken highly of each other in the past, so reuniting with the Raiders could very well be beneficial for the team.

So, what about Michael Mayer?

One of the prized picks of the Dave Ziegler and Josh McDaniels brain trust, Mayer was poised for greatness. Well, in theory. He never really got going, save for a few standout performances; however, the talent and potential are there.

Bleacher Report’s Maurice Moton made a notable observation regarding Mayer’s prospects under Getsy.

To be fair, the Raiders need to figure out the quarterback position before anything else. Sitting outside of the top 10 in this year’s draft, a top quarterback prospect could be out of the question. Either you roll with Aidan O’Connell or bring in a veteran such as Kirk Cousins. Either way, we can’t blame Raiders fans for feeling dubious about all of this after being enamored with Kingsbury possibly coming to town.
