'Concerning' Injury Prevents Jets' Offensive Tackle from Practicing Wednesday

Injuries continue to hit the New York Jets' offensive line.

Backup Billy Turner, who started at right tackle in Week 9, is unavailable for Wednesday's practice according to head coach Robert Saleh.

"Billy Turner with a hand [injury], which popped up after the game. He's not gonna practice today," said Saleh.

The 32-year-old Turner played all 81 offensive snaps as the right tackle in the Jets' 27-6 setback to the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday night. One week earlier, he came off the bench to fill in at right guard against the New York Giants after Connor McGovern and Wes Schweitzer left the game due to injury.

Now, Turner has an injury that could keep him out of the Sunday Night Football matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders.

"It's concerning. We'll see how the week progresses," said Saleh.

The Jets were already thin up front. Left tackle Duane Brown is still working his way back into game shape after a hip injury landed the 38-year-old on Injured Reserve. Gang Green has been forced to start five different offensive line combinations thus far this season.

Turner became the fourth different player to start at right tackle in eight games, joining Mekhi Becton, Alijah Vera-Tucker and Max Mitchell. Becton is currently starting on the blindside while Mitchell kicked inside to right guard in Week 9. Vera-Tucker is out for the remainder of the season due to an Achilles rupture.

Turner has played in 99 NFL regular season games, including 76 starts. He seemingly struggled against the Chargers and star edge rusher Joey Bosa on Monday night. According to TruMedia analytics, Turner allowed nine pressures during pass blocking snaps in the loss. Bosa overpowered the veteran right tackle on a first-quarter strip sack that set the Chargers' offense up at midfield.

The first official Week 10 injury report is due out early Wednesday evening.
