Commanders CB William Jackson out vs. Eagles
Washington Commanders cornerback William Jackson III. Scott Taetsch-USA TODAY Sports

The Washington Commanders will be without their top cornerback Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles. William Jackson III is inactive with a back injury.

The Commanders added Jackson to the game status report on Saturday. Washington will need to reshuffle their secondary. Expect seventh-round draft pick Christian Holmes to get an increase workload to slot next to Kendall Fuller and Benjamin St-Juste.

Jackson won’t be Washington’s only defensive starter out Sunday. Defensive end James Smith-Williams is inactive with an abdomen injury. The Commanders are already down Chase Young on the edge. Now his replacement is out.

Making things worse for the Commanders, fellow defensive end Casey Toohill is out with a concussion. Toohill would have been the option to slot in place of Smith-Williams. William Bradley-King was elevated for the game.

Shaka Toney and Efe Obada should split time playing opposite of Montez Sweat on the edge.

The good news for the Commanders is safety Kamren Curl will make his season debut. The star safety missed the first two games of the season with a thumb injury that required surgery. Curl could line up in the Buffalo Nickel which may help the cornerback rotation.

Rookie quarterback Sam Howell, guard Chris Paul and tight end Cole Turner are also inactive along with defensive tackle Daniel Wise.
