Coaching News: Kasper, Shula, Bridgewater

KASPER ON THE MOVE?

We start with perhaps the most significant of the recent developments involving a current member of the staff, safeties coach Joe Kasper.

The Philadelphia Eagles, who officially hired Fangio days after he and the Dolphins announced they were parting ways, have requested permission to interview him for the same position he currently holds, according to NFL Network reporter Cameron Wolfe.

Since this would be a lateral move, the Dolphins could block Kasper from taking the interview if they were so inclined.

Fangio clearly holds Kasper in high regard and it also should be noted that the Dolphins hired Kasper away from the Eagles last year after he spent the 2021-22 as a defensive quality control coach for Philadelphia.

STUDESVILLE STAYING PUT?

Associate head coach/running backs coach Eric Studesville is the longest-tenured member of the coaching staff, and it appears he will be back for a seventh season in 2024.

That's the fallout from the Tennessee Titans hiring Nick Holz as their offensive coordinator under new head coach Brian Callahan.

Studesville was considered a strong candidate for the position after he was scheduled to interview and based on his six years working with Callahan during their time together with the Denver Broncos.

SHULA SHUTOUT

On the same day a report surfaced that the Dolphins were going to interview Chris Shula, grandson of legendary coach Don Shula, for their defensive coordinator opening, the Los Angeles Rams took care of that idea by promoting him to become their new DC.

Shula, who had been the team's linebackers coach/pass rush coordinator in 2023 after coaching the secondary (including Jalen Ramsey) in 2022, replaces new Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris.

Another candidate for the Rams opening was Brandon Staley, who also is a candidate for the Dolphins job.

Shula became the second Dolphins candidate to get promoted to a DC opening, the first being Bobby Babich with the Buffalo Bills.

BRIDGEWATER BACK IN MIAMI

Finally, we should mention 2022 Dolphins quarterback Teddy Bridgewater becoming the head coach at Miami Northwestern High.

Bridgewater played at the school before attending the University of Louisville before an NFL career that brought him to Miami for one season.

During his time with the Dolphins, Bridgewater was clear about his dream of becoming a high school and now he'll get to do at his alma mater.
