Chiefs lose DE Charles Omenihu ahead of Super Bowl LVIII

Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid and Travis Kelce are on their way to Super Bowl LVIII in a rematch against the San Francisco 49ers, who they beat 31-20 in Super Bowl LIV. It's also an opportunity for the Chiefs to win their third Super Bowl in five seasons.

Unfortunately, Kansas City received a bit of bad news on Monday, and it couldn't have come at a worse time.

According to ESPN , pass-rusher Charles Omenihu will miss the Super Bowl because of an ACL tear he suffered during Kansas City's AFC Championship game win over the Baltimore Ravens.

Omenihu seemed to confirm the report himself on social media.

Brokenhearted probably can't properly explain Omenihu's emotions about this news. Not only will he be missing out on playing in the Super Bowl, but the 49ers are his former team. He was drafted by the Texans in the fifth round in 2019 and spent three seasons with Houston before being traded to the 49ers.

He suited up for San Francisco through half of 2021 and all of 2022 before signing a two-year, $16 million contract with the Chiefs this past offseason.

That's a deal he's played up to and even exceeded until this point, which makes this news even tougher for Kansas City. Omenihu notched 4.5 sacks in his final season in San Francisco. Including a sack he notched last weekend against the Ravens, he's totaled eight this season.
