Chicago Bears Lose Key Piece Of Pass Rush To Season-Ending Ankle Injury
Jamie Sabau-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Bears are one of the teams that is trending up. While the offense has looked much better, it is the defense that has been dominant. Ever since the Montez Sweat trade, the Bears’ pass rush has been devastating. However, they will have to continue without one of their best pass-rushers for the rest of the season. Defensive end Yannick Ngakoue suffered a broken ankle in the game against the Lions and will miss the rest of the season.

Chicago Bears Lose Yannick Ngakoue To A Broken Ankle

Ngakoue was a late free agent signing for the Bears in August. He has been a great piece for the pass rush. In 13 games, he has recorded 22 tackles and four sacks. While these stats aren’t huge, he was a key piece of the rotation and someone opposing offenses had to worry about. For Ngakoue, this is especially devastating as he is on a one-year deal. He will have to hope that there is enough good tape on him that a team will take a chance on him in 2024.

Bears Resurgence?

Chicago sits at 5-8 but has looked really good over the past three weeks on defense. Against the Lions, Justin Fields and the offense also looked sharp. With so many teams fighting for the final playoff spots in the NFC, it isn’t out of the question that the Bears sneak in. They definitely have to win out which is no easy task but if they keep playing like this, it is definitely possible. The more pressing question is what to do with Fields in 2024 which will be one of the most hotly debated topics during draft season.

It is a devastating loss for the Chicago Bears. Yannick Ngakoue was having a solid season and now they will have to have someone else step up on the defensive line.
