Chicago Bears: Exciting Rookie Class Makes Debut At Rookie Camp
David Banks-USA TODAY Sports

After a busy offseason, the Chicago Bears introduce their exciting young players at the start of rookie camp.

After a whirlwind offseason in which the Chicago Bears transformed their offense, they begin training camp on Friday. Usually, there aren’t many people interested in rookie camp. These aren’t usual times, however.

Many players in rookie camp are players looking to fight for a roster spot. Undrafted rookies and journeyman veterans litter the field with hopes of making it to training camp. Most of those players won’t even make it to OTAs.

Besides a few photo ops, rookie camp does not garner much attention. The team will run plays without pads and contact. The main idea is to make it to training camp to get a real shot at making the team.

Of course, we also see some of the exciting draft picks for the first time. This year, the Chicago Bears have some exciting rookies making their debut. They had two top-ten picks and General Manager Ryan Poles selected two dynamic and exciting players. With the first overall pick, he selected Caleb Williams.

Some consider Williams to be a generational talent. He was one of the most exciting prospects in the past couple of decades. Chicago Bears Nation is looking forward to seeing a new era of incredible offense with Williams at the helm.

With the ninth overall pick, Poles selected wide receiver Rome Odunze. In any other draft, Odunze would be the first receiver taken. However, in a class stacked with elite receivers, he was the third receiver picked.

Additionally, the Bears added offensive lineman Kiran Amegadjie, punter Tory Taylor, and defensive end Austin Booker. Despite only having five picks, the Chicago Bears’ draft class was rated the second-best.

Things are different this time around

This will be a different rookie camp. It will be exciting to see the draft picks in action, albeit limited action. Heck, add in the newest veterans and many fans want the season to begin today. They cannot wait to see these youngsters do their thing on the field.

While there are no pads or contacts, it will still be exciting to see this rookie camp. Fans want to see Williams make throws to Odunze. While the Chicago Bears also have D.J. Moore and Keenan Allen as the top receivers, Odunze could one day be WR1. Fans want to see the beginning of the relationship between Odunze and Williams.

In addition, these other rookies bring excitement and hope. Williams and Odunze are the headliners but Poles picked up some top-notch prospects. Taylor was one of the best punters in NCAA football history. He is truly a generational talent.

Amegadjie and Booker are projects but they have the bodies and abilities to succeed. Amegadjie is big and athletic and has long arms. He could challenge for the starting left tackle job this season. Even if he doesn’t get it, he could still become a starter soon.

Booker may only have 18 career games in college (with just 505 snaps) but when you look at his film he does not look inexperienced. He was getting into the opponent’s backfield regularly with his athleticism and variety of moves. A little bit of seasoning and he could become a star. He is one who could be the steal of the draft.

This rookie camp could be the first view of the new-look Chicago Bears. The fans are desperate for a winning team. With all the moves Poles made in the past three offseasons, a new winning era could be at the ground floor, ready to take off.
