Cardinals Place Defensive Starter on Injured Reserve
Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

The Arizona Cardinals announced the following roster moves ahead of Week 2's meeting against the New York Giants:

  • Signed safety Andre Chachere (SASH-er-ay) to the active roster from the practice squad
  • Elevated defensive lineman Eric Banks and cornerback Quavian White (QUAY-vee-un) to the active roster from the practice squad as standard elevations
  • Placed defensive lineman L.J. Collier on injured reserve

Banks will wear jersey #96, Chachere will wear #36 and White will wear #37, according to the team.

It's a major loss for the Cardinals after signing Collier in free agency. Collier immediately arrived from the Seattle Seahawks and inserted himself as a starter along an Arizona defensive line that needed notable names after watching J.J. Watt and Zach Allen depart from 2022.

Only Jonathan Ledbetter played more snaps along Arizona's defensive line last Sunday than Collier, who was on the field for 37 snaps, good enough for just over 50% of plays. 14 different players in the Cardinals' front played 12 snaps or more, and Collier's departure for the season will now require even more emphasis on rotation. He had two sacks in the Week 1 loss.

Look for names such as Kevin Strong and Carlos Watkins to feature more prominently.

Collier was ruled out for Week 2 on yesterday's injury report after not practicing the entire week with a biceps injury. Josh Woods was also ruled out on Friday and Budda Baker is questionable.

The Cardinals are currently 4.5-point underdogs to New York.
