Bynes Takes Seahawks Coaching Job Under Macdonald
USA TODAY SPORTS

Mike Macdonald continues to gather fruit from the John Harbaugh tree.

Per Aaron Wilson of KPRC, former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Josh Bynes will join the coaching staff of the Seattle Seahawks, set to serve as a linebackers' assistant under former Charm City defensive coordinator Mike MacDonald.

Wilson's report also declared that Bynes received interviews with both the Ravens and Los Angeles Chargers. The 34-year-old partook in three different terms in Baltimore, originally arriving as an undrafted free agent out of Auburn in 2011. His first stint lasted three seasons before the Detroit Lions signed Bynes off the Baltimore practice squad in 2014.

Bynes was also on the regular season roster in 2019 and 2021 before signing a one-day deal to officially retire in purple this past December. In Baltimore lore, Bynes is perhaps best known for sealing the Super Bowl XLVII victory, tackling Ted Ginn on the free kick that sealed the Ravens' 34-31 victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

"What stands out to me is what an achiever Josh Bynes has been," Harbaugh said of Bynes upon his retirement, per Ryan Mink of the Ravens' official site. "I think he is an example that when you work hard and do the right things, and treat people right, and show up every day and do your best, a lot of great things can happen and you can surpass expectations."

"He's become a legendary player in our organization because he came back so many times."

In addition to his time in Baltimore and Detroit, Bynes also appeared in regular-season action for the Arizona Cardinals and Cincinnati Bengals.

Since he was granted the reigns of the Seahawks, Macdonald has packed his staff with familiar faces: other Baltimore alumni on the forming Pacific Northwest brain trust include assistant head coach Leslie Frazier and special teams coordinator Jay Harbaugh, John's nephew who recently won a college football national with his father Jim at Michigan.
