Browns bolster D-line with latest signing

The Browns rebuilt their defensive line this offseason after not having a player outside of DE Myles Garrett eclipse three sacks in 2022. But general manager Andrew Berry wanted to add one more piece before the start of the 2023 season.

According to reports, Cleveland signed veteran DT Shelby Harris to a one-year, $5.25M contract on Wednesday.

Harris has 261 tackles, 24.5 sacks and three forced fumbles in his career. The soon-to-be 32-year-old joins the Browns after a one-year stint with the Seahawks.

He adds to a revamped defensive line as Cleveland traded for DE Za'Darius Smith, signed DT Dalvin Tomlinson and DE Ogbonnia Okoronkwo and drafted DT Siaki Ika this offseason.

Harris joins the team a little late, but he could still find his way into the starting lineup over fourth-year DT Jordan Elliott, who had just two sacks a year ago. However, he will provide a great insurance policy with a ton of experience at worst.

The Browns clearly put an emphasis on bolstering their trenches and the addition of Harris may just be the final piece to end another very active offseason.

Cleveland has high aspirations for the 2023 season, but the AFC North and AFC as a whole might be as competitive as ever. So, the Browns will need everyone to contribute, including Harris, to meet their expectations.
