Broncos' Salary-Cap Space After Brandon McManus Cut

The Denver Broncos have made multiple roster moves in the past couple of weeks, but now have a roster of 90 players, the maximum amount allowed during the offseason.

As things currently stand, the Broncos are in a solid position as far as the salary cap goes. Per Over the Cap, the Broncos currently have $10.13 million in cap space.

Most notably, the Broncos designated the release of kicker Brandon McManus as a post-June 1 move, which allowed them to spread out dead money charges between 2023 and 2024. That was the main roster move that allowed the Broncos to gain additional cap space.

It's important to note that the top 51 cutoff rule is in effect for the offseason. This means that only the top 51 cap hits count toward the cap.

Once rosters are finalized after training camp to include the main roster, practice squad, and anyone placed on injured reserve, all players will count toward the cap.

It's possible that the Broncos could release other veteran players who have no guaranteed money left but are due a significant amount. The Broncos might also trade a player at some point.

Once the roster is finalized, we'll have a better idea about where things stand with cap space. You just need to remember that the cap space will be in flux for the next few months until the final roster is determined.

The Broncos have typically kept about $10M in cap space available during the season. That gives the team a cushion in case they have to make additional roster moves during the season, plus it gives them a fair amount to carry over into next season.

Thus far, that practice hasn't changed under new ownership or a new general manager. Even with ownership that may be more inclined to spend money, it still benefits a team to have some unused cap space to allow some flexibility.
