Breakdown shows issues Tom Brady had with Phillip Dorsett
Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

The New England Patriots’ offense was mostly shut down by the Houston Texans on Sunday night, and this video breakdown helps explain one of the issues in the passing game.

Tom Brady didn’t even throw for 100 yards in the first half. On the Patriots’ possession before halftime, Brady bombed a ball deep down the left sideline that landed incomplete with nobody around. So what happened on that play? Phillip Dorsett, who lined up wide left, missed a hand signal from Brady telling him what to run.

Former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky shared a breakdown on Twitter of the video, and it is outstanding. After the incompletion, Brady could be seen telling offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels that he was done with Dorsett for failing to see the signal to do a double move.

Dorsett was returning from a concussion and missed the Week 12 win over Dallas. He only had two catches for 15 yards on six targets against Houston.

After seeing breakdowns like that, it’s easy to see why Brady only trusts Julian Edelman and James White. Those two combined for 14 catches out of Brady’s 24 completions. It’s also easy to understand why Brady may have been upset that the Pats got rid of Antonio Brown.
