Bills’ Pass Rusher Gets Brutally Honest On Free Agency Plans

Buffalo Bills linebacker Leonard Floyd is getting set to hit free agency this spring, and while he would like to remain with the Bills, he understands circumstances may play out differently.

When asked about his plans for the offseason, Floyd laid things out pretty plainly.

“For me I’m always going where the money goes,” Floyd said, via Sal Maiorana of The Rochester Democrat & Chronicle. “I’d rather be here, but it is what it is. It’s a business. I’m gonna go wherever my agent feels like we get the most the most money from.”

So, basically, Floyd won’t be back in Buffalo in 2024.

The Bills have one of the worst salary cap situations in the NFL, as they are currently $51 million over the cap heading into the offseason. Given the season Floyd just had, the chances of Buffalo re-signing him seem slim to none.

Floyd played in all 17 games this year, racking up 32 tackles, 10.5 sacks and a forced fumble.

The 31-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Georgia, was originally selected by the Chicago Bears with the ninth overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft.

He spent the first four years of his career with the Bears and was somewhat of a disappointment. He registered an impressive seven sacks during his rookie campaign, but never even reached five sacks again over his final three seasons in Chicago.

Floyd then went on to join the Los Angeles Rams in 2020, where he had a breakout year of sorts with 55 tackles, 10.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a couple of fumble recoveries.

He spent three seasons with the Rams overall and was very productive, tallying 9.5 and nine sacks, respectively, over the next two years.

The Atlanta native then signed a one-year deal with the Bills last June.

Buffalo went 11-6 this season and fell to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Divisional Round of the playoffs.
