Bills GM shares information about Stefon Diggs trade talks

Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane never came close to trading Stefon Diggs amid an interesting offseason involving the star wide receiver.

"No, no one called on Diggs," Beane explained during a recent appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show," as shared by Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. "I think people know that he’s ours. Even if there was an issue, and he was never asking to be traded, it never came up."

It remains somewhat unclear to outsiders exactly what happened regarding Diggs and head coach Sean McDermott across the early days of mandatory minicamp, but both men have since publicly addressed the matter and attempted to pour cold water over any idea the 29-year-old isn't fully dedicated to winning a Super Bowl with the Bills.

Reports in June claimed that Diggs's unhappiness had to do "with his role in the offense and his voice in play-calling" and over the fact he and the Bills "needed to get on the same page on the direction of the offense." While speaking with reporters last week, Diggs insisted that it "is insane" to think he would want more of a say in offensive game-planning.

Whatever did or didn't occur between Diggs and individuals within the organization such as Beane and McDermott, the company line is that everyone involved wants to put the situation in the past.

"It truly was never an issue, it was just more us getting in a room and talking through how last season finished and getting on the same page," Beane added about the subject.

For what it's worth, there was little meaningful chatter throughout June and July that Diggs wanted out of town immediately and could no longer play alongside teammates such as Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen this coming season. For now, Allen and company need a happy and motivated Diggs on the active roster as the Bills look to get past the likes of the Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals assuming all three clubs make the playoffs in January.

As of Thursday afternoon, OddsChecker listed the Bills third among betting favorites at +900 odds to win Super Bowl LVIII.
