Per ESPN's Field Yates, the Buffalo Bills have agreed to a restructured contract with defensive tackle Tim Settle, one that is set to save them approximately $600,000 in cap space.

Settle, set to turn 26 in July, returns to Buffalo for a second season after spending his first four years in Washington. Some pegged Settle as a potential salary cap casualty and destined to hit the free agency front with Buffalo poised for over $2.2 million in potential savings upon his potential departure, but the team seems content with continuing with the young project on the defensive line.

Well known for forming instant chemistry with primary inside man Ed Oliver, Settle put up 19 tackles (four for a loss) and one sack. His most notable Western New York moment to date was a sterling performance against the Green Bay Packers in October: Settle' sack came against Aaron Rodgers and his pass deflection early in the fourth quarter landed in the hands of Matt Milano, stifling a Green Bay comeback en route to a 27-17 victory.

"He’s tough, he’s hard-nosed," defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier said of Settle upon his arrival from Washington, per Dom Tibbetts of WKBW. "He’s a guy who’s going to win his one on one’s."

The Bills appear to be all-in on keeping the inside rotation on their front line rolling, one headlined by Oliver (whose Buffalo future, alas for Settle, is anything but secure beyond 2023) and now featuring Settle, DaQuan Jones, and Jordan Phillips. At a young age but boasting plenty of experience, the Bills will look to continue his development and maintain further continuity on defense.

Having said that, Buffalo still has some work to do when it comes to getting back under the salary cap: even with Settle's new deal, the team would still be over $18 million above the cap, the second-worst rate in football ahead of only New Orleans.
