Best and worst playoff result in the history of each 2017-18 NFL playoff team

The Falcons have advanced to the Super Bowl twice but have yet to hoist the Lombardi Trophy. They lost Super Bowl XXXIII to the Broncos 34-19 and lost last year's Super Bowl LI to the Patriots 31-28 in heartbreaking fashion.

Atlanta has lost in the wild card round four times, most recently 24-2 to the Giants in 2011. The team entered the game with a 10-6 record but was forced to go on the road.

The Bills lost four Super Bowls in a row with a core of Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas, Andre Reed and Bruce Smith. They lost Super Bowl XXV with kicker Scott Norwood's missed 47-yard field goal at the end, but the next three Super Bowls weren't nearly as close.

Buffalo lost three wild card games in four seasons. The most memorable loss was clearly the Music City Miracle, a kickoff return on a lateral from Frank Wycheck to Kevin Dyson that gave the Titans a miracle win over Buffalo.

The Panthers franchise started in 1995 and Carolina already has been to two Super Bowls. The Panthers lost to New England 32-29 in Super Bowl XXXVIII and lost to Denver's vaunted defense 24-10 in Super Bowl 50.

There have been several losses in the divisional round by the Panthers. Their most dire were a 33-13 home loss to Arizona in 2008 after going 12-4 during the regular season and a 23-10 loss to the 49ers at home at the end of the 2013 season.

The Jags experienced plenty of success in their infancy, making the playoffs in four straight seasons from 1996-99. They surprised to make the AFC Championship Game in only their second season, losing to the Patriots 20-6 in 1996. Three seasons later, the Jags went 14-2 during the regular season but lost to the Titans 33-14 in the conference championship.

Few Jaguars fans would complain about a playoff appearance considering their recent futility, but the organization was ousted in the wild card round twice in its history. The Jaguars were run over by Denver 42-17 in 1997 and also clobbered by New England 28-3 on the road in 2005.

The Chiefs organization has only one Super Bowl, upsetting the Vikings 23-7 in Super Bowl IV. Quarterback Len Dawson starred, throwing 12-for-17 for 142 yards and one touchdown.

The wild card round hasn't been kind to the Chiefs, who have lost seven times in their history. Their playoff futility was on full display in the 2013 playoffs against the Colts. After leading 31-10 at halftime, the Colts stormed back to win 45-44.

The St. Louis Rams completed a Cinderella story in Super Bowl XXXIV, beating the Titans 23-16 with Kurt Warner, who entered the season as the backup to Trent Green. The team was just 4-12 the previous season but developed a historic offense known as the Greatest Show on Turf.

The Rams made it a habit of losing in the wild card round during the 1980s. They lost 16-13 at home vs. the Giants in 1984, 19-7 vs. Washington in 1986 and 28-17 to the Vikings in 1988.

Minnesota has plenty of success in its history but has yet to win the big game. The Vikings were heavily favored against the Chiefs in Super Bowl IV but lost 23-7.

The Vikings have plenty of wild card losses that fans would like to forget. Their most recent loss was the most soul-crushing, as kicker Blair Walsh missed a 27-yard field goal with 26 seasons remaining to lose to Seattle 10-9.

Head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady have teamed up to win five Super Bowls with the Patriots. The most recent was the most miraculous, as the Patriots came back from a 25-points deficient to beat Atlanta 31-28 in overtime of Super Bowl LI.

It's tough to feel sorry for Patriots fans given their five recent Super Bowl wins, but they had been snakebitten prior to the Belichick-Brady era. Their most recent wild card round loss was tough, losing 33-14 at home to Baltimore as Brady threw three interceptions.

New Orleans upset the favored Colts 31-17 in Super Bowl XLIV, putting a city on their backs that was still recovering from Hurricane Katrina. Drew Brees had a great game with 288 passing yards and two touchdowns.

New Orleans lost in the wild card round three years in a row, including a second-half collapse to the Eagles at home in 1992. However, the Saints' loss in 2010 was an even bigger upset. As defending Super Bowl champs, they lost 41-36 to a 7-9 Seahawks squad.

The Eagles have yet to win their first Super Bowl but did appear twice. They lost to the Raiders 27-10 in Super Bowl XV and lost to the Patriots 24-21 in Super Bowl XXXIX.

The Eagles have eight wild card round losses in franchise history, including their last three playoff appearances. Their most recent loss was 26-24 to the Saints in 2013 under head coach Chip Kelly.

One of the most successful franchises in the NFL, the Steelers had a dynasty in the 1970s under head coach Chuck Noll. More recently, they won in 2005 and 2008 with Ben Roethlisberger at quarterback.

With 29 playoff appearances since the AFL-NFL merger, the Steelers have also had their fair share of losses. They have five losses in the wild card round, including their most recent loss to division-rival Baltimore, 30-17, at home in 2014.

Kevin Dyson and the Titans came just a yard short of tying Super Bowl XXXIV vs. the Rams at the end of the game. That was the organization's only Super Bowl appearance.

The Oilers/Titans organization has its fair share of losses in the wild card round. The most recent loss was a 17-6 defeat on the road at the hands of the Chargers in 2007-08.
