Bears trade No. 1 pick and QB Justin Fields in latest mock draft

The Bears have arguably the most difficult decision of the offseason, deciding whether to stick with QB Justin Fields or drafting a rookie quarterback with the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

However, CBS Sports' Chris Trapasso believes Chicago could do neither in his latest mock draft.

Trapasso has the Bears trading Fields and a 2025 sixth-round pick to the Falcons for their 2024 third-round pick and 2025 third-round pick that can turn into a first- or second-round pick based on playing time and making the playoffs.

If Chicago were to go through with a similar trade, many would think it was planning to select USC QB Caleb Williams with the No. 1 pick. 

Williams is the favorite to hear his name called first after throwing for 8,170 yards, 72 touchdowns and just 10 interceptions from 2022-23.

But that isn't how things could play out in Trapasso's mind. He then has the Bears trading the No. 1 pick to the Commanders for a king's ransom just as they did in 2023.

According to Trapasso, Chicago will trade the No. 1 pick, its 2024 third-round pick and a 2025 fourth-round pick for Washington's No. 2 pick, 2023 second- and third-round picks, 2025 first-round pick and 2026 third-round pick.

Although that is a tough deal to pass up, moving on from Fields and Williams is not a scenario that many believe could happen for the Bears this offseason. Unless they aren't as high on the USC product as most are, of course.

The Commanders then proceed to select Williams first overall and then Chicago drafts LSU QB Jayden Daniels at pick No. 2.

The 2023 Heisman Trophy winner could still be a home run hit after throwing for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns and rushing for 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2023. But it does seem like it is the riskiest decision.

Only time will tell what the Bears plan to do, but Trapasso reveals that they have other options and there is a strong case for them to not go with Fields or Williams in 2024.
