Bears named a potential suitor for Giants WR Kenny Golladay

New York Giants receiver Kenny Golladay has been taking it on the chin dating back to the preseason.

The Chicago native, who had an underwhelming first season in New York in 2021 (37 receptions, 521 yards, zero touchdowns), has quickly fallen out of favor with both the Giants’ coaching staff and their fans.

He hasn’t helped his case either after totaling just two offensive snaps in a 19-16 win over the Carolina Panthers in Week 2 and logging zero receptions on three targets two weeks ago in a 23-16 Monday Night Football loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 3.

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reported earlier this week that the Giants could look to move on from Golladay if the situation isn’t amendable, and one NFL analyst believes the Chicago Bears could be a potential suitor if Golladay is, indeed, on the trade block.

“Chicago is fortunate to be where it is considering its anemic passing game — or perhaps we should say its general unwillingness to commit to the passing game,” NFL.com’s Eric Edholm wrote. “… If the Bears think they can be a surprise contender, adding a veteran to the receiving room could make some sense.

“…Perhaps Golladay and some of the Bears’ current receivers have too much overlap, skill-wise. Equanimeous St. Brown and Byron Pringle are cut from similar cloth as longer deep threats. But Chicago has just 11 catches by wide receivers through three games, and Pringle has been held back by injury.”

Despite Golladay’s faults, he’s a two-time 1,000-yard receiver who led the NFL with 11 touchdown receptions in 2019 with the Detroit Lions. He also has a Pro Bowl to his name.

Golladay could be a stabilizing presence for a Chicago receiver group that’s struggling, to say the least. No Bears receiver has more than four receptions or 77 yards, and running back David Montgomery leads the team with five receptions.

Chicago has the last-ranked passing offense in the NFL, averaging 78.3 yards passing per game, while the team’s combined 23 receptions are the fewest in the league.
