Bears make decision on head coach Matt Eberflus

The Chicago Bears have already made some significant changes this offseason, but they are sticking with their head coach.

Matt Eberflus will return as head coach of the Bears in 2024, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The two sides held “extensive meetings” on Monday and Tuesday before reaching a decision.

Eberflus’ staff is getting a makeover, however. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Bears have fired offensive coordinator Luke Getsy. While Eberflus is expected to continue calling defensive plays, Chicago is planning to bring in a true defensive coordinator.

Eberflus has coached the Bears for two seasons. They finished 7-10 this year after going 3-14 in 2022, so there was significant improvement.

There was talk that the Bears had some discussions about bringing in one big-name head coach, but that is not going to happen.

Now that they are keeping their head coach, the Bears have a huge decision to make at the quarterback position. Chicago currently holds the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft, which they acquired from the Carolina Panthers when they traded back from the same spot last year. If they stick with Justin Fields and trade back again, the return for the top pick could be even greater this time.
