Are Chiefs targeting top WR prospect in 2023 NFL Draft to replace seven-time Pro Bowler?

After the Chiefs traded star wideout Tyreek Hill to Miami in 2022, they're potentially targeting a prospect who resembles the seven-time Pro Bowler.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Kansas City invited Boston College's Zay Flowers to work out with QB Patrick Mahomes in Texas on Wednesday.

Although it's a bold comparison, Flowers shares some similarities with Hill. Both are small wideouts. Flowers is 5-foot-9, 182 pounds, while Hill is 5-foot-10, 191 pounds.

However, Hill is faster than Flowers. He ran a 4.29 40-yard dash during his pro day at West Alabama, while Flowers ran a 4.42 40-yard dash at the combine. That indicates Hill is a better downfield threat.

Regardless, Kansas City should still target Flowers, even if he's not the next Hill. It needs more depth at WR after JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mecole Hardman left in free agency. Also, he could become a dynamic playmaker.

ESPN draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. rated the 22-year-old wideout as his No. 10 prospect. "He just gets open and makes plays. He forced 25 missed tackles last season, third-most in the country for a wideout," he wrote of Flowers.

In 12 games last season, he caught 78 passes for 1,077 yards and tied for the fifth-most receiving TDs in the country (12). Boston College went 3-9 last season and rotated two different QBs (Phil Jurkovec and Emmett Morehead), making Flowers' consistency more impressive. Flowers could blossom under Chiefs HC Andy Reid, an offensive wizard, and Mahomes, a two-time league MVP.

Per Tankathon, the Giants will select Flowers with the No. 25 pick, outside the Chiefs' range (No. 31). But an NFL exec told ESPN's Matt Miller that "he expects K.C. GM Brett Veach to climb higher in Round 1 to secure a marquee player."

The Chiefs may want to land Flowers during the first round of the draft on April 27 and develop him into their next outstanding WR.
