All-Pro teammate places big expectations on Packers QB Jordan Love

Jordan Love is under pressure in Green Bay, there's no doubt about it.

Not only is he replacing four-time MVP and future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers, but he's no rookie heading into 2023. He may be entering his first season as the undisputed starter in Green Bay, but he's had three years to ride the bench, learn head coach Matt LaFleur's system, and learn from one of the best.

According to one of the best players on his team, All-Pro left tackle David Bakhtiari, all of those factors lead to the expectation of a higher standard on Love. 

"He's had three years to understand and master the offense which is very fortunate for any first-round QB. [He got] to watch and see how a first ballot Hall of Famer and generation talent — and the guy who borderline changed the quarterback position and how its played and even the mechanics of even throwing the football. [He was] able to see that for three years and now coming in, so his baseline for me is way higher," Bakhtiari told Jim Rome.

And as far as how those expectations have played out so far this preseason?

"You know what I've been very pleased with what I've seen with him," Bakhtiari said. "I think he's also understanding that he's not going to be judged either by a first-year quarterback [standard], which is great. I think he's going to be competitive right out of the gate. I've seen his development in practice. I'm really excited to see it translate into the game and for him to get those game time and hours logged in and really see how he adapts and corrects himself midgame and game to game."

An example of what Bakhtiari is looking for was found in Green Bay's first preseason game. Love made a terrible throw on a third down early on, missing a wide-open tight end for an easy gain plus probably more. 

On the very next drive, though, Love went three-for-three and capped things off with a beautiful touchdown pass to Romeo Doubs in the corner of the end zone.

Per Bakhtiari, Love's knowledge of the offensive scheme and everything that goes into it has grown exponentially over the years backing up Rodgers.

"There's a lot of little nuances, a lot of pre-snap reads. There are also certain checks, and there are abilities to work cadences and snap counts. A lot of things that I've seen Aaron do at a very high level. Seeing that growth from his rookie year to now is exponential," the veteran left tackle said of Love.
