Al Michaels to team up with Kirk Herbstreit for 'TNF' broadcasts?

It's been widely reported that ESPN college football personality and analyst Kirk Herbstreit will serve as the analyst for future "Thursday Night Football" NFL games when those contests shift to Amazon beginning later this year.

Herbstreit will likely have a familiar voice working alongside him for those matchups.

Andrew Marchand of the New York Post reported early Friday evening that Herbstreit has officially agreed with Amazon to be the "TNF" analyst and that legendary play-by-play announcer Al Michaels is at the "half-yard line" as it pertains to putting pen to paper with Amazon on a three-year contract "in the $30 million range." As Peter Botte of the Post previously explained, Michaels' contract to call NBC "Sunday Night Football" games expired following Super Bowl LVI.

College football fans who are used to seeing Herbstreit on ESPN and ABC apparently have little to worry about, as Marchand reports the 52-year-old will retain his roles on "College GameDay" and as the company's lead college game analyst.

Interestingly, the news comes the same day it was learned that play-by-play announcer Joe Buck is expected to join Troy Aikman in leaving Fox Sports for ESPN. Michaels is believed to be a candidate for the Fox NFL opening until he signs with Amazon or elsewhere, or takes himself out of the running.
