5 Possibilities for the Eagles Offensive Coordinator Job

To the delight of many Philadelphia Eagles fans everywhere, the team announced Tuesday morning that they would be moving on from Brian Johnson. The decision isn’t a surprise for fans, as Johnson was subject to scrutiny throughout the season. In 2022, the Eagles offense looked poetic, being able to drive the ball down the field at will. They had the ability to attack defenses in all areas, starkly opposed to this year. Here are some options for the Eagles offensive coordinator role that could bring the Eagles back to 2022 form.

The Longshot

Josh McDaniels, Former Raiders Head Coach

McDaniels gets a lot of well-deserved hate for his two coaching stints with the Las Vegas Raiders and the Denver Broncos. However, as an offensive mind, McDaniels is still towards the top of the NFL. He was a massive part of the Patriots dynasty and has proven that he knows how to scheme wide receivers open in the offense. Another positive, McDaniels has always been committed to the run game an element that Eagles fans felt was undervalued in 2023. McDaniels will be hard to steal away from a possible reunion with Bill Belichick. Yet, the Eagles should try and see what they can do to make it happen.

The Experienced Options

Eric Bieniemy, Former Chiefs and Commanders Offensive Coordinators

A long-time offensive coordinator, Eric Bieniemy should be in the mix for the Eagles. Bieniemy had major success with the Chiefs offense before leaving in 2022 to be the play-caller for the Washington Commanders. While it was not a great year offensively for the Commanders, Bieniemy still has the track record to be a solid option for the Eagles. He can come in right away with experience and a level of prestige to grab players’ attention and respect.

Kliff Kingsbury, Former Cardinals Head Coach

Tuesday night, it was reported that Kliff Kingsbury was interviewed for the offensive coordinator job of the Eagles. It’s an interesting fit, that would surely be a major shake-up to the Eagles offense. Kingsbury with his stint as the Arizona Cardinals head coach, had some success and failure with his air-raid style offense. Kingsbury showed the ability to be creative in the passing game and tailor game plans and game-specific plays week to week. However, he runs a heavy passing offense which could turn out to neglect the Eagles’ biggest strength, their offensive line. It’s an interesting candidate that could be a home run or a fly ball.

Interesting Inexperienced Candidates

Zac Robinson, Rams Passing Game Coordinator/ Quarterback Coach

Robinson has been a pretty hot name so far in the NFL coaching carousel. He has been requested to interview for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Las Vegas Raiders offensive coordinator positions. Robinson has limited experience as a coach but has been calling plays for the Rams in the preseason and is a part of the vaunted Sean McVay coaching tree. The Rams have had major success with him on staff since 2019 in the passing game. There’s a definite risk to Robinson, but a high ceiling as well.

Tee Martin, Ravens Quarterback Coach

After spending two seasons as the wide receivers coach, Martin took over as the quarterbacks coach for the Ravens this year. Martin has risen in coaching circles due to the season of the Ravens offense and the influence he has had over Lamar Jackson this year. Martin is a former quarterback at Tennessee University, who spent time with the Eagles in training camp in 2002. There could be significant interest in pairing Martin up with Jalen Hurts and furthering his development.
