49ers QB Trey Lance: 'Absolutely I'm finding rhythm' with receivers in camp

The San Francisco 49ers are turning the offensive reins over to second-year quarterback Trey Lance, even though he made just two starts as a rookie. With the regular season less than a month away, Lance is feeling confident about the strides he's made in training camp.

"Yeah, absolutely I'm finding rhythm," Lance told Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area at a joint practice with the Minnesota Vikings. "For me, just trying to come out here every day and trying to get better, taking it one step at a time, especially with these practices. ... One step at a time, one day at a time, and just continuing to groove with these guys."

Lance, 22, was the third overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft but spent his rookie season behind Jimmy Garoppolo on the depth chart. He finished the year with five touchdown passes and two interceptions and also recorded one rushing touchdown.

Throughout the offseason, the 49ers have said they intend to trade Garoppolo and rely on Lance in the starting role.

Last week, Lance threw just five passes in the team's preseason debut, completing four of them, including a 76-yard connection with Danny Gray for a touchdown.

The 49ers are set to meet the Vikings next on Saturday night at 7 p.m. ET.
