49ers players unhappy over unwanted hotel wakeup call

The San Francisco 49ers have something else to be unhappy about this week. Players were forced out of bed at 6 a.m. local time due to a fire alarm going off in their hotel. 

While nobody was forced to evacuate and the hotel called it a false alarm, 49ers players are convinced it wasn't an accident.

Running back Christian McCaffrey, the NFL's offensive player of the year, said there is no way it was random and that it just throws "more wood on the fire." Defensive end Nick Bosa compared it to the treatment they got in their Philadelphia hotel with construction. 

"I'm sure somebody did it," said Bosa. "It kind of reminded me of Philly when they had this construction going on outside. It was early in the morning and they were like demolishing a bridge right outside of our hotel. We haven't had the best luck. But no excuses."

The thing about his "no excuses" line is that the 49ers always seem quick to point out excuses or have a gripe about something. This is just the latest example. 

They spent the entire offseason talking about how they would have been in the Super Bowl a year ago had it not been for Brock Purdy's injury in the NFC Championship game. They have been unhappy with their practice field situation this week going into the Super Bowl and have not been shy about letting everybody know about it. Now they seem convinced somebody was trying to wake them up -- only a few minutes early, for what it is worth -- at their hotel. 

They would not be the first team to have somebody pull a fire alarm at their hotel, but this wasn't even the night before the game. It also wasn't even at an unreasonable hour in the middle of the night. If somebody was going to try and throw them off, 2 a.m. the night before the Super Bowl would have been a far more logical and effective time to strike. 

If the 49ers do not win on Sunday there is a good chance you'll be hearing them talk about fire alarms or their Super Bowl week practice field for most of the offseason.
