49ers OL apologizes for blasting teammate for blown play in Super Bowl

There was plenty of finger-pointing following the San Francisco 49ers' 25-22 overtime loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday.

But none of it was as blatantly obvious as the tweet 49ers guard Jon Feliciano fired off on Tuesday afternoon.

Responding to a tweet blaming right tackle Colton McKivitz for allowing Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones to get a free rush on quarterback Brock Purdy on a third-and-goal situation in overtime, Feliciano threw teammate Spencer Burford under the bus for allowing Jones a clear path to the QB.

The play resulted in Purdy overthrowing an open Jauan Jennings in the end zone and forced SF to ultimately settle for a field goal instead of a touchdown, opening the door for KC to score the game-winner on its next drive.

Burford saw the tweet and responded, prompting Feliciano to apologize via social media and in person, squashing any bad blood, Burford confirmed to NBC Sports Bay Area.

“It was just a miscommunication between us, man,” Burford said. “He apologized.”

Feliciano was San Francisco’s starting right guard for the Super Bowl, allowing one pressure and one hurry on 31 offensive snaps, but he suffered a pectoral injury that forced him to miss the second half. Burford replaced him and played the final 44 snaps, allowing three pressures, two QB hits and a hurry.

Burford was SF’s primary right guard this season, starting 13 games and playing 874 offensive snaps. Feliciano started the season as a backup guard, but he made seven starts down the stretch while playing 208 snaps on the left side and 395 snaps on the right side.
